A violent knife attack on journalist Gaël Eboa in the early hours of Sunday, January 11, 2026, has reignited fears over the growing insecurity faced by media professionals in Cameroon, particularly in urban centers.
The attack occurred around 2:00 am at Quartier Italie, near the Bertoua Regional Hospital, as the journalist was returning home after hosting a wedding ceremony at Exotic Hotel.
Gaël Eboa, popularly known in media circles as “le Sénateur du micro,” was reportedly intercepted by two assailants riding a motorbike.
According to accounts, the attackers followed a familiar criminal pattern: a sudden stop, threats, an attempted robbery, and then swift violence.
One of the assailants stabbed the journalist in the chest and attempted to strike him in the neck, a potentially fatal blow narrowly avoided by chance.
He also sustained injuries to the back of the head and ear.
Badly wounded, Gaël Eboa was rushed to the Bertoua Reference Hospital, where he received emergency medical care.
Hospital authorities confirmed that he remains under medical observation. While his injuries are serious and not yet fully healed, his condition is described as stable.
The attackers fled the scene immediately after the assault and have not yet been identified.
