South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters party, led by Julius Malema, has condemned what it says are false claims made by the US President, Donald Trump.
During a meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at the White House on Wednesday, Trump claimed the South African government was systematically killing its white farmers.
To substantiate his claims in what the media has described as an “ambush,” the White House played a video of Malema and supporters chanting, “Shoot to kill the white farmers. Kill the boer.”
These are chants which a South African court had said are revolutionary and has nothing to do with killing whites South Africans.
However, Donald Trump ignored the statistics that showed that white killings constitute less than one percent of crime killings in South Africa.
Many believe Trump’s claims were engineered by Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, who was born in South Africa.
Despite the tensions at the White House, Ramaphosa remained composed, trying to focus more on resetting bilateral relations between his country and the United States.
Relations between both countries have strained under Trump’s second term, with the US imposing 66 percent tariffs on Southern Africa.
Washington, DC, had also expelled the South African ambassador.
Malema Says Trump’s Agenda Revealed
To the EFF, Trump’s whole agenda is to bring Elon Musk’s Starlink to South Africa.
“Once again, we are vindicated. The meeting between Ramaphosa, Trump, and Johann Rupert exposes a clear agenda: using the false ‘white genocide’ narrative to push Elon Musk’s Starlink into South Africa,” Malema’s party said.
“Let it be clear — Starlink will not operate unless 30% is ceded to Black South Africans under true BEE. We will not allow foreign billionaires to profit while our people remain dispossessed,” it added.
White Farmers Granted Refugee Status in US
The White House visit was held following the departure of some South African white farmers to the US under the refugee program.
However, Ramaphosa had said they don’t fit the definition of refugees.
Ramaphosa flew to the USA with some white South Africans, including his Minister of Agriculture, who is also the leader of the Democratic Alliance that helped form the government of national unity.
Despite their explanations, Trump repeatedly claimed a white genocide was taking place.
Back in South Africa, people have questioned the necessity of President Ramaphosa’s trip to the US.
