Junior Ngombe, a social media activist, has been disqualified from becoming a police inspector in Cameroon after failing the mandatory medical test.

Ngombe had initially passed the written part of the examination, the results of which were released shortly after his release from detention. The 20-year-old activist was previously arrested and detained for seven days for promoting voter registration and advocating for political change in the country. “I want to thank all those who contributed for for release, financially or otherwise, I am grateful.”

Following his release, news of his success in the police exams circulated widely. However, Ngombe has now been disqualified on medical grounds.

Reports indicate that Ngombe’s name was absent from the list of candidates who passed the medical examination. According to Actu Cameroun, after being declared successful in the written exam, Junior Ngombe traveled to Bertoua to complete the additional requirements, including medical tests, sports assessments, and a background check.

Despite his earlier success, when the results of the medical tests were released, Ngombe’s name was missing from the list of candidates who passed, effectively disqualifying him from proceeding with the remaining assessments.

Junior Ngombe recently gained attention after being arrested in Douala by plainclothes security officers and transferred to Yaoundé, where he was detained and interrogated for seven days. His arrest followed his social media appearances in which he encouraged voter registration and called for regime change in Cameroon.

After news of his participation in the police exams when viral, many questioned why he took part in an intitative by a government that he is criticising. “Yes i took part in the exams. I deposited my documents. It was not by chance, that i succeeded in the written part, it was because I am witty enough. I am and remain the Junior that you all know. Before saying anything, try to get the right information…this is social media and i cannot control waht is said on here,” He said on his TikTok.

Junior’s detention sparked widespread outcry from both within and outside the country, leading to significant pressure on the government, which eventually led to his release.
