The Cameroon Association of English Speaking Journalists (CAMASEJ ) and Cameroon Journalists Trade Union (SNJC) have asked journalists to be ready for any call to protest for justice for journalist Samuel Wazizi.
To the President of SNJC Denis Nkwebo, “Samuel Wazizi died at the military hospital in Yaounde after months of torture”.
A confirmation of the death of Samuel Wazizi was tweeted by CAMASEJ. The tweet mentioned that SNJC and CAMASEJ are working on a common strategy on how to let journalists show their discontent for the death of their colleague while asking for justice to be done.
On his WhatsApp status, Jude Viban, National President of Cameroon Association of English Speaking Journalists Wednesday June 3rd 2020, said “Journalists should be on their marks”.
In a telephone call from Yaounde, Jude Viban explains, “it is really a sad day for journalists in Cameroon. We are working on a common front on how to go about this delicate issue”.
Samuel Wazizi has been detained incommunicado since the 2nd of August 2019 when he was arrested in Muea – Buea in the South West region of Cameroon.
As journalists in Cameroon impatiently wait for “signals” from their leaders, they have taken on the social media with the hash tag #justice4wazizi# . The government of Cameroon has not issued any comment on the pressman’s demise.
