Kamto challenges President Biya to public debate

Cameroon Renaissance Movement , MRC has accepted a public debate on the administration of Cameroon and general socio political, economic and cultural affairs of the country with the Cameroon People Democratic Movement(CPDM).

To the MRC party, that is part of democracy to enlighten the Cameroonians and the international community and should be encouraged.

Speaking to Mimi Mefo Info Wednesday September 23rd 2020; a day after MRC led protest march to oust the regime of president Paul Biya, the secretary general of Cameroon Renaissance Movement party says they have accepted the public debate proposed by the CPDM party on one condition.

Bar. Ndong Christopher says “the Cameroon Renaissance Movement wants the presidents of the two political parties to hold a public debate. This means that Prof. Maurice Kamto; leader of MRC party should debate with Paul Biya; president of CPDM”.

The politician adds that his party has long demanded for a public debate between the two leaders since 2018.

MRC party argues that leaders of the political parties sufficiently incarnates the vision and ambition of the parties and in a public debate, each leader will edify the public better.

In a release signed Tuesday September 22nd by the national communication secretary of the Cameroon People Democratic Movement (CPDM), Prof. Jacques Fame Ndongo challenged leaders of the MRC party to a public debate while advising that street protests launched by the party headed by Prof. Maurice Kamto to oust democratic institutions is not democracy but a means to plunge Cameroon in total chaos.

Cameroon People Democratic Movement in the release acknowledged that Cameroonians failed to follow calls for protest and further described the manifestation as “…a total fiasco”.
To Cameroon Renaissance Movement party, the protest was a total success given that despite heavy military presence and brutality meted on unarmed civilians, people came out to show how they are disgruntle with the 38 years regime.

To the secretary general “Many people were killed and some wounded are receiving treatment in hospitals while several people were arrested by the military. This only comes to confirm the dictatorial nature of a regime that is not accountable to anyone but interested in enriching a few to the detriment of a greater number of people.”

As some Cameroonians decry the conspicuous absence of Prof. Maurice Kamto in the protest actions, the party hierarchy regrets that the residence of their party leader has been militarized since Monday September 21st.

“Prof. Maurice Kamto has been placed in an unannounced house arrest by the regime of Paul Biya. This is because they knew that if allowed to protest, millions of Cameroonians will have come out to remove the regime”. Bar Ndong Chritopher added.

CRM decries the fact that its national treasurer Prof. Alain Fogue, the spokesperson of Maurice Kamto;Olivier Bibou Nissack and many other top leaders and militants of the party remain in detention in different areas in Cameroon.

The opposition party says other protest actions will continue until they attain their goal of removing the regime through street protests.
