Kamto-Kagame Connection: Danger Signals For Biya Regime?

Following his release from prison, MRC national leader , Prof Maurice Kamto has made several outings on the international scene, with one of his biggest being the recent rally in France.

Just recently however, the MRC boss was in Rwanda on the invitation of President Paul Kagame.

While the invitation seems like any other, it is one of the first the politician has received from a leader on the African continent since contesting results of the 2018 presidential election.

Media reports have since been raising concerns as to the nature of relations between Yaounde and Kigali with some even citing the possible summoning of the Rwandan Ambassador in Yaounde.

In reporting the happening, La Nouvelle Expression newspaper goes ahead to suggest the invitation is a sign to the Biya government on who Rwanda prefers.

“I decided to invite Maurice Kamto in September in Rwanda because for me he is an inspiration and worthy of being listened to … Cameroon is fortunate to have a man like Maurice Kamto. I know the man mainly by his brilliance … If he had been Rwandan, I would have ceded my seat to him without hesitation” Paul Kagame is quoted saying.

While the invitation may just be like any other, others hold that it is a sign that Kagame like other leaders will prefer a regime change in Cameroon.
