Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has issued a sharp warning to the United States as the conflict between Iran and Israel continues to intensify. In a televised address aired on Iranian state TV, Khamenei condemned foreign involvement and dismissed U.S. President Donald Trump’s call for “unconditional surrender” as irrational and ineffective.

“The Americans, and those familiar with the politics of this region, know that the U.S. involvement in this matter will be entirely to its detriment and it will suffer a blow,” Khamenei declared.

“A blow that will be far more damaging than any harm that may come to Iran.”

Khamenei: “Iranians Are Not Those Who Surrender”

Addressing growing international pressure, Khamenei said,

“Wise people who know Iran, its people, and its history never speak to this nation in the language of threats, because Iranians are not those who surrender.”

He called Trump’s demand for surrender “irrational,” adding that “threats do not have an impact on the thoughts or behaviour of the Iranian nation.”

In a separate written statement read by a presenter, Khamenei added,

“Any form of U.S. military intervention will undoubtedly be met with irreparable harm.”

Satellite Images Reveal Damage to Strategic Military Sites

As Khamenei addressed the nation, satellite images from Maxar Technologies revealed the extent of destruction caused by recent Israeli airstrikes. The most significant visible impacts include:

  • Tabriz Missile Base: At least nine buildings and two tunnel entrances were destroyed, with additional structures severely damaged.
  • Mashhad Airport: A large aircraft appears completely destroyed, with only the tail section remaining intact.
  • Dezful Air Force Base: Imagery suggests the presence of Shahed drones on trailers and visible fighter aircraft, indicating it may have been a target or under preparation for future use.

These developments point to substantial damage to Iran’s missile and air defence infrastructure, which analysts say could impact Tehran’s ability to sustain prolonged offensive operations.

Despite Iran bearing the brunt of recent strikes, Israel has also suffered significant losses. According to Israeli authorities, at least 24 civilians have been killed and over 150 injured in missile and drone attacks launched by Iran over the past several days. Sirens have sounded repeatedly across central and southern Israel, including in Tel Aviv, as multiple cities came under fire. Infrastructure damage has been reported in residential areas, with schools and public transport services suspended in several regions. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) continue to intercept incoming threats using the Iron Dome system, but officials warn that sustained attacks could overwhelm the country’s defense capabilities if hostilities continue to escalate.

Debate in Washington: Support or Stand Down?

In Washington, President Trump is reportedly weighing whether the United States should directly support Israel’s offensive, particularly targeting deep-underground nuclear facilities such as the Fordo enrichment site. Only the U.S. military has the ordnance capable of penetrating such fortified locations.

According to CBS News, a 90-minute Situation Room meeting on Tuesday revealed division among Trump’s advisers. Proponents of the “America First” doctrine are urging caution, citing past wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Conversely, GOP hawks like Senator Lindsey Graham are pushing for more aggressive action, arguing:

“It is in the national security interests of the U.S. to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear bomb.”

Iran insists its nuclear programme remains peaceful.

International Reactions and Calls for De-escalation

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar defended Israel’s initial strike, claiming it was a necessary move against “decades of clandestine Iranian hostility” and threats of annihilation. He cited the deaths of 24 Israeli civilians from Iranian missile attacks and said the strike was carried out during the “last window of opportunity” to prevent further aggression.

Iran’s Health Ministry has reported at least 224 deaths from Israeli airstrikes, stating that the vast majority are civilians.

In the UK, Prime Minister Keir Starmer is convening an emergency Cobra committee meeting. A Downing Street spokesperson emphasised:

“We want to de-escalate the situation… This is an extremely fast-moving situation, and we are working with partners to reiterate the need to return to diplomacy.”

A Tense Crossroads

As the Israel–Iran conflict enters its second week, Iran’s Supreme Leader is positioning the country in direct defiance of Western demands. Meanwhile, damage assessments and diplomatic manoeuvring continue, with the U.S. at a strategic crossroads and the global community on edge.
