A priest from the Diocese of Kumbo, Cameroon, has officially announced his decision to step away from the exercise of priestly ministry after more than a decade of service. In a formal communique dated September 19, 2025, ex. Rev. Fr. Elvis Nsaikila expressed gratitude to Church authorities, fellow priests, family, and friends who have supported him throughout his vocation.

Formal Announcement After Discernment

In his statement, Rev. Nsaikila explained that his decision came after “a significant period of prayer and discernment, including consultations with my Spiritual Director and Ecclesiastical superiors.” He confirmed that he initiated the canonical process to be dispensed by the Holy Father from all obligations tied to the exercise of Holy Orders.

“This process has already been completed and was communicated with profound respect through the Dicastery for Evangelization,” he stated, citing canons 976 and 982 §2 of the Code of Canon Law.

Gratitude to Bishops and Companions in Ministry

The former priest expressed deep appreciation to the Bishops under whom he served, as well as to fellow clergy and loved ones.
“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the four Bishops with whom I have had the honor of serving, to the priests who have been faithful companions on this journey, and to my family, friends, and all who have supported me along the way. May God bless your kind hearts beyond measure,” he said.

A Strong Faith Despite the Transition

While acknowledging that his decision may come as a shock to some, Rev. Nsaikila reassured the faithful that his convictions remain unchanged.
“I understand that this news may be disheartening to some. Yet, let us remember that the ultimate destination remains unchanged: Heaven. My faith is as strong as ever, perhaps even deeper, and my convictions in God and humanity remain unwavering,” he affirmed.

He emphasized his commitment to continue living and teaching the Catholic faith:
“I will also continue to teach and share this faith, as I have done throughout my years of priestly ministry since 2014, preceded by two years of diaconal service, through music, writing, speaking, and any other means Providence may provide.”

A New Chapter in His Christian Journey

Rev. Nsaikila closed his message with a further request for prayers as he embarks on a new path outside ordained ministry.
“Please keep me in your prayers as I embark on this new path in my Christian journey. Know that I will continue to hold you in mine,” he wrote, signing off “Devotedly in Christ.”

The Diocese of Kumbo has not yet issued an official statement regarding his departure. However, Rev. Nsaikila’s message highlights his enduring dedication to the faith, even as he transitions away from active priestly ministry.
