A farmer whose identity remains unknown has been killed in Kwakwa, a village in Meme division of the South West region.
He was shot death January 5, 2023.
Sources say he was shot on his way to the farm by suspected elements of the Cameroonian army.
“He was shot by the military two days ago on his way to the farm. He was not an amba fighter, and he has never been one,” a local source told MMI adding that: “He was just a man living in the village struggling to make ends meets.”
It should be recalled that Kwakwa is one of the villages hardest hit by the near six years Anglophone separatist conflict — with hundreds of houses burnt and people killed.
Villagers, however, say there has been some degree of calmness in the area, with no confrontations for some time now until Friday January 5, when the military opened fire killing a farmer.
