Cameroonian barrister Tamfu Richard announced today that he is officially joining the Cameroon Party for National Reconciliation (PCRN), led by Cabral Libii. Barrister Tamfu stated his belief that Libii “is on the right path” and expressed his desire to join “the struggle to bring the long-awaited change we all glamour for.” The announcement, shared on his Facebook page, signifies a notable shift in his political path, after a period of being temporarily removed from active political involvement.

“After suspending my political activities for a while, I took a deep reflection and analysis on the political situation of my country, Cameroon,” he wrote, “and I’ve decided to officially join the CAMEROON PARTY FOR NATIONAL RECONCILIATION (PCRN) headed by President Cabral Libii. I strongly believe that he is on the right path for many Cameroonians’ aspirations. I am joining him in this struggle to bring the long-awaited change we all glamour for.”

Tamfu Richard, a familiar face in the political arena, is no stranger to the scene. Having practiced law in various regions of Africa, including Cameroon and other parts of Central, West, and East Africa, his choice to join PCRN demonstrates a strategic step towards driving progress in Cameroon’s political sphere.

However, this recent affiliation comes on the heels of his dismissal from the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM) party on August 1st, 2023. The termination, which occurred shortly after he announced his bid for the party’s presidency, was the result of mounting tensions stemming from his purported deviation from the party’s political trajectory.

Barrister Tamfu’s expulsion from CRM highlighted a division within the party, as he was accused of not adhering to the political line and party discipline. The decision, approved by CRM’s National President Maurice Kamto and sanctioned by the National Mediation and Arbitration Committee (CNMA), highlighted the presence of irreconcilable differences regarding party loyalty and adherence to directives.

The circumstances surrounding his removal shed light on a chain of incidents that caused strife within CRM. Tamfu Richard, and his colleague Armand Noutack were accused of engaging in activities that went against their party and breaching loyalty. These allegations were outlined in a complaint filed by CNMA. Amid simmering tensions within CRM, the unavailability of Barrister Richard and his subsequent communication via WhatsApp only served to exacerbate the situation, despite a summons for a hearing.

Interestingly, Barrister Michele Ndoki, another individual aspiring for a prominent position within CRM, faced a similar outcome when she was expelled from the party on July 13, 2023. The expulsions reveal the intricate power dynamics at play in Cameroon’s political landscape, where political careers are often shaped by loyalty and adherence to party doctrine.

Barrister Tamfu’s choice to join PCRN highlights a significant shift in his political journey. With his extensive experience and legal expertise, he is set to make a significant impact on PCRN’s discussions and decisions, playing a crucial role in shaping the political landscape of Cameroon.

In the dynamic world of Cameroonian politics, Barrister Tamfu’s recent actions highlight the intricate dance between personal beliefs and party loyalty. It is a vivid reminder of how individuals strive to bring about positive change for their country, while carefully managing the shifting landscape of political alliances.

Barrister Tamfu, a lawyer specialising in Central and West Africa, was a rising star within the CRM before his expulsion. He was admitted to the Nigerian Bar Association in 2014 and the Cameroon Bar Association in 2015.
