Zinkeng Erazmus, one of the two Cameroonian migrants who died in a car accident in Panama, was a native of Lebialem Division in the South West Region, a source close to his family told MMI.

Reports say he was also a master’s degree student of the University of Buea.

The 30-year-old reportedly embarked on a clandestine journey to the United States of America through Panama, a small South American country.

Family sources say Erazmus had successfully crossed the most dangerous points of the journey before the unfortunate accident.

“This is Zinkeng Erazmus, one of the two Cameroonians who died at Panama after successfully crossing the jungle,” a source told MMI.

Panama is used as a transit route by most migrants from Africa and other parts of the world who want to enter the US through Mexico.

According to the Cameroon ambassador to Brasil, Erazmus died alongside 39 others when a bus transporting them to a refugee camp crashed on February 15.

“The family is still looking for a means to get to the embassy and bring back home his remains,” a family source told MMI, pleading for assistance.

Another Cameroonian who died in the process was identified as Prince Tamfu.

Cameroon’s Embassy in Brasil had put out a statement asking families of the deceased to establish contacts with the Embassy for possible repatriation of their bodies.
