A child has been hospitalized at a local hospital in Bechati, one of the 17 villages in Lebialem Division, after a powerful wind caused the collapsed of about four houses on Sunday, March 12.
MMI learned one of the most affected families is that of Jephthah Forsung, a Bechati native whose house was leveled by a tree that also injured his daughter.
Jephthah and his wife were not at home at the time of the incident. They are now homeless in a village they have lived their entire lives.
Reports say the wind also destroyed at least three other houses but injured no other person.
The incident happened at a time when Bechati village, like many other communities in Lebialem, is struggling to bounce back from an armed conflict that has displaced many of its natives.
The village of over 6,000 people has as Fon HRH Nkemtaji Jerry Jong, member of the Southwest House of Chiefs.
