Political parties whose candidacy files ahead of the February 9, 2020 municipal elections were rejected by Elections Cameroon, ELECAM have a total of seven days to appeal according to section 125, subsection 3 of the Electoral Code.

“The decision to reject the candidacy or publish candidacies may be appealed against before the Constitutional Council or under the conditions laid down in sections 126, 129 and 130”

Those vying for the parliamentary seats have two (2) days to appeal before the constitutional Council in Yaounde, while those vying for the local elections have five (5) days to contest before local administrative courts in their respective municipalities.

In a document publishing lists of candidates by ELECAM Monday December 9, 2019 in accordance with section 187 of the Electoral Code, a total of seventy (70) lists were rejected for both municipal and legislative elections.

Seventeen (17) lists of candidates running for the legislative elections were rejected, while 53 were rejected for the municipals, for diverse reasons including non payment of Deposit fee, delay in submission, and the submission of multiple lists by a party.
At least ten (10) political parties among which the UPC, CPNR, UDP, PADDEC, CDU were effected by the decision.
