Several quarters in Limbe 2 subdivision Fako Division in the South West Region of Cameroon are without electricity supply this evening Wednesday, February 3rd, 2021.

“I live in Batoke. We are in a total blackout since the early hours of today. It’s disappointing that Intermediate Lions of Cameroon a playing a crucial CHAN match just meters away from our house yet we can’t watch the match on TV,” Daniel Tsengeng stated in a telephone interview.

To another football fan, the blackout in some parts of Limbe is a deliberate move by the government of Cameroon to punish the inhabitants.

“The truth is that many people did not buy tickets to watch the match at the Limbe Omnisport Stadium. So government thinks by disconnecting the light we will go to the stadium,” he says.

The blackout has affected people living in Sokolo, Batoke, Mukundange, and part of Cite Nanga Quarters.

People fear that blackout coupled with heavy military deployment in Limbe are threats to them.

Morocco is playing against Cameroon in a second semi-final match of the African Football Championship. The winner of the match will clash against Mali at the final to take place in Yaounde on the 7th of February 2021.
