Limbe FESTAC 2019 Takes-Off Amidst Spades Of Gunshots

The 2019 Limbe Festival of Arts and Culture – FESTAC opened today April 6 2019, in the town of friendship amidst early morning gunshots at Mile 2 purportedly by the Pro-Independence Fighters, Mimi Mefo Info has learnt.

Sources say Government Defence and Security Forces were informed of the presence pro-independence fighters at Mile 2 and a truck of soldiers was immediately dispatched to the area to contain them.

Despite the early morning gunshots that lasted for some minutes, it did not however scare or stop the denizens of the opec city of Limbe who came out massively for the planned sports walk in the morning.

Information says over 3,000 persons answered present for the sports walk despite the 10-day lockdown imposed by separatists fighters and the gunshots in the morning aimed at frustrating the cultural showpiece.

Later in the afternoon and under the watchful eyes of Governor Okalia Bilai Bernard, the Government Delegate of Limbe City Council, International and national dignitaries, administrative and traditional authorises and over 5,000 spectators at the FESTAC ground watched the FESTAC carnival parade that brought the four Cultural zones of Cameroon to the fore with color and excitement championed by different ethnic / cultural groups aimed at showcasing their beautiful cultures and artifacts

Meanwhile, 20 year old TAKU Pauline, an Upper Sixth Student of UNIC Secondary School in Limbe, a resident of Mawoh quarter in Limbe I Sub-Division won Miss Limbe FESTAC 2019.

Taku Pauline who hails from Nguti Subdivision, Kupe Muanenguaba Division of the South West Region, was crowned winner of the beauty contest, which took place on Friday March 29, 2019 at the Limbe City Council Hall Down Beach with 15 competitors.

Taku Pauline Bessem bagged home the sum of FCFA 500,000. The first runner up, Miss Sharonash Ngenya Fontem 20 year old, a native of Mbeta Kupe Maneguaba Division and also final year student of the University of Buea studying Geography, resident in Animal Farms grabs the sum of three hundred and fifty thousand, (350.000FCFA).

Meanwhile the second runner up Miss Njomo Jeanbea Susan 22 year old, Level 300 Midwifery student of Biaka University Institute of Buea, resident in Mokunda village, emerged as the second runner up. She bagged home the sum of FCFA 200.000.

There was tension in Buea, Mutengene,Tiko and other parts of Fako ahead of the cultural jamboree after Ambazonian fighters announced a ten-day lockdown, to frustrate the event.
According to the separatist leaders, there should be no celebration when “they are at war…”
The Limbe FESTAC which started, April 6th 2019, ends April 13th 2019.
