The 139th edition of International Labour Day is being marked in Limbe with an official ceremony held at the Manga Williams grandstand. The event is taking place under the national theme, “Social Dialogue and Decent Work for a Peaceful Cameroon.”

The Senior Divisional Officer for Fako Division, Viang Mekala, arrived at the venue earlier today to preside over the proceedings. The event has drawn workers from a range of public and private institutions, all of whom are participating in the traditional march past.

As early as 9am, groups of employees were already assembled, dressed in the official uniforms of their respective organisations, and awaiting their turn to take part in the march. The parade represents a structured showcase of workplace representation across sectors.

Meanwhile, this year’s programme includes presenting awards to selected individuals in recognition of their performance and service. The recognition is further intended to highlight workplace standards and reinforce institutional commitment.

The theme chosen for 2025 focusses on labour-related dialogue and employment conditions, which are central elements of national development planning. It also aligns with ongoing government and stakeholder discussions aimed at improving working environments and promoting stability.

The Limbe event is part of nationwide activities organised to commemorate Labour Day, observed annually on May 1.
