Open Door Days in Cameroonian schools are usually marked by the display of the best of crafts to the public.
In technical institutions like the Government Bilingual Technical High School Limbe (GBTHS), varied talents are showcased.
Among several ingenious products showcased by technical school students in the Southwest Region at their Open Door Day today was a refrigerator produced from scratch by students of GBTHS Limbe.
Unlike the normal refrigerators used by most Cameroonian households, the refrigerator functions both as an air conditioner and a refrigerator.
It absorbs all heat from items put into it and keeps them cool at an above-zero temperature level.
The students said it costed them close to 800,000 francs to produce it, but if they are capacitated with the right equipment, they can make it far cheaper and better for regular household use.
“If we are provided with the equipment we can do things… we can be able to produce our own components here in Cameroon. We have produced this cold store without the help of the white man and all those people outside.”
