A video has gone viral showing French President Emmanuel Macron blocked from reaching the French embassy in New York because of US President Donald Trump’s motorcade.
Mr. Macron was attempting to reach the building just as Trump was about to pass, prompting a full road closure with no exceptions.
The French leader was seen explaining to police that the road should be open, but the New York Police Department officer calmly told him that the US President was passing.
While stuck in traffic, Mr. Macron called Trump and jokingly said he’d been interrupted because of him.
The incident unfolded during the ongoing United Nations General Assembly, where global leaders have gathered this week.
Aside from the Macron episode, other unexpected moments have grabbed attention in New York.
When Mr. Trump entered the UN building, the escalator suddenly stopped working, forcing him and his wife, Melania, to climb by foot.
Another awkward scene came when Senegalese President Diomaye Faye mounted the podium, only for the protocol meant to introduce him to be delayed.
One of the day’s most crucial speeches was Trump’s, which at times felt like a campaign rally as he detailed his domestic achievements.
He also reacted to global issues, dismissing climate change as a “scam” and “a con job” by people seeking profit.
Trump further claimed he was resolving several world conflicts—“except for the one in Ukraine,” which he said he believed he could settle because of his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The former president reiterated that Iran “can’t be allowed to have a nuclear weapon,” boasting about how “Operation Midnight was done.”
