Members of Parliament will at the March session which begins Friday seek to vote bureau members for the National Assembly and the Senate. Key among them for Anglophone MPs will be the selection of a replacement for late Deputy House Speaker, Hon Emilia Lifaka. She died on April 20, 2021. The MP was also the first African ever to be elected Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.




Roger Mbassa Ndine, City Mayor of Douala has announced the construction of an 18KM tramway to facilitate movement within the city. State media reports that the project will need its own autonomous power supply system to be able to function effectively.




A large consignment of contraband sugar has been impounded by Customs officers in Mora, Far North Region of Cameroon. It was seized during a routine operation. The goods were allegedly smuggled into Cameroon from Nigeria.




A woman has escaped mob justice in the West Region of Cameroon after she poured a pot of hot water on her child. The child was asleep when she committed the heinous act. She claimed the boy was stubborn. She was saved when law enforcement agents appeared to take her from the irate crowd.


Teachers of the Government Bilingual High School, GBHS, Maroua, in the Far North Region and their peers across Cameroon today turned up in schools in black attire. They were mourning the passing away of Mr. Hamidou, a teacher who trended in social media after revealing he had not been paid for 10 years.


Teachers’ trade unions have vowed to intensify the OTS/ Craie Mort Protest following the death of Mr. Hamidou. According to a statement from the collective of teachers, the situation of Mr. Hamidou is a general reflection of how teachers have been treated by the government.
