Mvondo Hervé Christian, a young man allegedly tortured and incarcerated at the Kondengui prison in Yaounde has passed away.

Reports say he was beaten by Chinese quarry owners where he served, eventually leading to his demise.

Mondo was remanded in custody by the state prosecutor, MMI gathered, despite his poor state of health following an encounter with the said Chinese.

Mvondo had been working for them in the Febe Village quarry, Yaounde, following an agreement which was verbal.

The young man like others had been denied a befitting contract but was desperate to work for pay.

Without a work contract, we learned that , his working hours were eventually increased by his employers continually until he got to breaking point and decided to quit.

The relationship with his employers got more sour however when Mvondo demanded to be paid what was owed him.

He was asked to leave the premises, but refused to do so without getting paid.

Consequently, he was beaten until he lost consciousness. He was rushed to hospital, where they resuscitated him.

The young labourer’s woes however were just getting started. His Chinese employers are said to have filed a complaint against him for attempted assassination.

Thanks to their influence, he was arrested and detained at the Kondengui prison despite his health situation. The lack of financial ability to get him bailed only worsened the situation.

A few hours later, the young Mvondo gave up the ghost.

His story is one of many others of abuse, torture and abuse if power orchestrated by Chinese and other foreign business owners on Cameroonians, a situation authorities continue to overlook.
