The police in Yaoundé have arrested Mr Wachou Simeon, a man earlier handed a six-month sentence and fined more than FCFA 5 million for illegally practicing the law profession.
Authorities arrested him on Thursday, October 17, 2024, based on an arrest warrant issued by the Yaoundé Court of First Instance on October 12, 2022.
Barrister Pierre Robert Fojou, representing the Cameroon Bar Association in the case, stated in a release signed October 21, 2024, that authorities presented Mr Wachou to the Prosecutor of the Yaounde Court of First Instance before they shoved him into the Kondengui prison on Monday evening.
Mr. Wachou Simeon received a sentence for practicing law illegally, usurping a title, and usurping a uniform.
The court rendered judgement No. 6624 on 12 October 2022, imposing a fine of FCFA 500,000, a costs fee of FCFA 307,155, and an additional fine of FCFA 5,000,000 to the Cameroon Bar Association.
The authorities did not execute the judgement until two years later, when they arrested Wachou on October 17, 2024.
Barrister Robert Fojou stated that his arrest and imprisonment will deter all other impostors and ensure they understand the consequences of attacking our noble and worthy profession.
Arrete No. 41/DPJ/SG/MJ of 12 April 2005 guides the legal profession in Cameroon, requiring all advocates in the country to join the bar association.
