Man shot dead in Bamenda over suspicious links with separatist fighters

A young man whose name we got as Louis Metah was killed in Bamenda yesterday after he was suspected of being a separatist fighter.

Talking to MMI, a friend of the deceased based in Dubai says Louis worked there as a security guard and had come home to visit his family.

“He was shot on Wednesday 15 April in Ntarikon. He was arrested in the morning around 6:30 at home and taken to an unknown destination by the Cameroon military. Later on we received a call from one of our friends that he was shot and dumped on the streets” the friend says.

Regretting that Louis was killed though innocent, his friend says “he was here with me in Dubai and just went home this year and was thinking of returning before the COVID-19 outbreak that saw borders closed.”

Presenting images of Louis in his uniform as a security guard, the friend says “the military claimed he took these pictures in Cameroon and was one of the Ambazonian fighters… He was shot because this picture was found in his phone.”

Louis is one of over three thousand people that have lost their lives in the ongoing war in the North West and South West regions.

Despite the UN’s appeal for peace as the world tackles the coronavirus, fighting has raged on with several villages burnt to the ground.
