Man tortured by soldiers in Ndu speaks out!

Jean Fai Bungong, a young man tortured to near-death by Cameroonian soldiers on February 11 in Ndu, North West Region has finally opened up about his ordeal in the hands of the security elements.

He has also addressed the medical aid he was said to have received from a politician, Hon Ngala Gerard.

Interviewed by Equinoxe TV, Fai Bungong said he was returning from a visit to his aunt when he met the soldiers who accused him of being a separatist fighter.

“I told them that I am not amba but they didn’t listen to me and started beating me from there right up to the council building,” he said.

Regarding medication, he said “the medicine I had was traditional medicine used for treating cough and stomach bite. That is why I agreed to taste when they asked me to do so. The medicine to treat cough was mine because I had a cough and that to treat stomach bite was for another patient”.

Traditional medicine, he explained, was an inheritance from his father.

Quizzed over why he was found in possession of two National Identity Cards, Bungong said “one was mine and another belonged to my late father. I went out to establish his death certificate”.

“I am still feeling pains inside my chest and my head due to the beatings,” he said regarding his health, displaying drugs he was given at the hospital in Nkambe where he was rushed.

“Look at my body, I feel pains,” he added, showing the scars he sustained from the torture.

Fai’s latest interview comes after an earlier video in which he appeared, sending words of appreciation to a local politician for coming to his rescue.

Many have called out the political and MP for using a life-threatening situation for political gains, adding that if he had genuine intentions he would have helped without making a video of it.

The Defence Ministry says it has arrested four policemen, two soldiers, and two gendarmes responsible for torturing the civilian to near-death, but is yet to reveal their identities or carry out any disciplinary action against them.
