Maurice Kamto urges opposition to unite for Electoral Reforms

The president of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement, Prof Maurice Kamto has urged all opposition political parties to unite to push electoral reforms.

He has equally extended a similar call to civil society organizations, religious establishments, the diaspora amongst others, urging them to join the discussions.

In a bid to enable the immediate launch of talks, Maurice Kamto has opted to use the CRM headquarters located at Odza in Yaoundé as a possible avenue where these talks could be held. Kamto has however maintained that the CRM party remains open for any other venue proposed by any interested party, as the main aim of the CRM party President is for the first session of talks to be held imminently.

Maurice Kamto and the CRM party have for a long time now advocated for a review of the electoral system in Cameroon.

The politician has on several occasions taken major actions geared at improving the electoral code. Such moves include boycotting the just ended Regional Elections, as well as organizing nationwide protests to that effect.

However, the regime has seen his efforts as inconsequential as the opinion with regime barons remains that the CRM party President is simply seeking possible means of taking over power.

The inactivity of the regime has however not turned him off as his campaign to reform the electoral system may take a significant stride ahead if his convention with other political parties succeeds.

Kamto believes that the current electoral system is not transparent enough, and is at the center of the conflicts being faced in the country presently. The CRM president also believes that reforming the system might be another very important step taken towards solving the Anglophone crisis in the Northwest and Southwest regions.
