Professor Messanga Nyamding Warns Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi Against Feud With Samuel Eto’o Over FECAFOOT Elections

Professor Messanga Nyamding, a prominent political analyst and academic, has publicly advised the Biya Regime’s Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, to step back from his ongoing confrontation with football legend Samuel Eto’o over the upcoming FECAFOOT elections. Speaking on local media, Messanga Nyamding described the Minister’s current stance as a losing battle and warned that continuing the tug-of-war could have far-reaching consequences for Cameroonian football.

The feud centers on the governance of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) and the elective General Assembly scheduled for November 29, 2025. Minister Kombi has officially blocked the participation of two ministry representatives in FECAFOOT’s electoral process, citing irregularities and potential risks of public disorder. In recent developments, Kombi even suggested involving Cameroon’s Ministry of Territorial Administration (MINAT) to prevent the elections from proceeding.

Samuel Eto’o, the former national team captain and presidential candidate for FECAFOOT’s leadership, has insisted on holding the elections independently, emphasizing the need for transparency and adherence to both Cameroonian law and FIFA regulations. Eto’o’s camp argues that government interference in the federation’s affairs violates FIFA’s statutes, which could place Cameroon at risk of sanctions or even suspension from international football competitions.

Professor Messanga Nyamding’s warning comes against this backdrop, highlighting the broader implications of the Minister’s actions. “Cameroon could face FIFA sanctions that would harm our football development for years to come,” Messanga Nyamding said.

FIFA has historically taken a strict stance against political interference in national football federations. Should the current standoff escalate, Cameroon risks suspension from international competitions, which would affect national teams, club participation in continental tournaments, and the country’s reputation in global football governance. Long-term repercussions could include loss of sponsorships, diminished investor confidence, and setbacks in youth football development programs.

The ongoing standoff between the Ministry of Sports and Eto’o highlights a broader tension between government oversight and federation autonomy in Cameroon. If unresolved, this feud could deepen divisions within Cameroonian football and hinder its progress on the international stage.

Cameroonians and football fans alike are now watching closely to see whether Minister Kombi heeds the advice of Professor Messanga Nyamding or continues to push a confrontation that many fear could have lasting negative consequences for the country’s football legacy.
