Several civilian homes in the restive North West and South West have been burned with three persons killed, in a recent military raid in the country’s restive regions.

The attacks according were perpetrated by elements of the Cameroonian military, MMI has gathered.

Yer in Bui division and Bai Panya in Meme division were scenes of the latest attacks — with dozens of villagers stranded.

Reports say on Saturday, December 17, 2022, the military invaded Yer, a village in Bui division of the North West region, and set homes ablaze.

Atleast ten houses were reportedly burnt according to local sources.

The military gunned down three civilians during the attack.

Amateur footages obtained by MMI show locals lamenting over the material loss incured after the burning sprey.

It is not yet known why the village was targeted.

While tears and blood were flowing in Yer, the military in another operation descended on Bai Panya, a locality in Meme division of the South West region burning homes.

They are also reported to have looted several homes — made away with money and other valuables.

“This is Bai Panya. We are being deceived everyday that the military is no longer burning houses,” a local is overheard lamenting in the video footage.

“These are houses burnt by the military today Monday, December 19, 2022,” the local added.

He added that, “They looted homes, carried away drinks and stole money from women’s houses.”

Lamenting over the arson attack, the local wondered if the dialogue being preached by the government is real.

It should be recalled that setting civilian homes on fire has been recurrent in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon in the prolonged Separatist war.

Government forces are battling armed separatist who are fighting to create a state called Ambazonia.

Several human rights reports have indicted government for targeting and burning down villages in their military campaign.

During the 2022 human rights day on December 10, the Camerooon Anglophone Crisis Database of Atrocities released fresh reports of documented crimes including arson largely blamed on government.
