MINAT boss orders dismantling of irregular checkpoints on some major roads

Paul Atanga Nji, Minister of territorial administration, has ordered the immediate dismantling of irregular checkpoints along the Douala-Garoua and Douala – D’jamena stretches.

The MINAT boss dished out the orders recently after a special security and administrative coordination meeting he chaired in Bertoua headquarters of the East Region.

According to the minister, the decision to dismantle those irregular check points ,follows continuous reports of extortion from drivers, alongside a recent security service of the Ministry of Defense.

“The instructions from the President of the Republic is that the Governors, SDOS and the forces of law and order should only work with the legal check points which have been approved by the two parties”,Atanga Nji said, adding “that it is a partnership between the two governments structures”.

“only mixed checkpoints of Douala, Bertoua, Gado-Badzéré to Bangui are legal” the minister emphasized.

He furthered that,”any other checkpoint which has not been recognized by the state should be dismantled immediately.”

” You cannot have within a scope of 10 kilometers, 15 checkpoints.” fumed MINAT.

These corridors, it should be noted are just few out of many where drivers are constantly extorted, mercilessly with the presence of uncountable irregular checkpoints.
