The Ministry of Defence (Mindef) says it has detected 1,312 fake certificates, including fake GCE Ordinary and Advanced Level, Probatoire, BEPC and CAP certificates, in the process of recruiting gendarmes and soldiers.

The information is contained in a release signed by the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in Charge of Defense, Joseph Beti Assomo.

“As part of the ongoing process of recruiting young Gendarmes and soldiers into the Cameroonian Defence Forces for the financial year 2024, the appropriate checks to authenticate the certificates of the candidates selected for the thorough medical examination conducted prior to the publication of the final admission results, have led to the discovery of many false qualifications,” Beti Assomo’s release states.

The fake certificates included one fake GCE Advanced Level; 12 false Probatoire; 64 fake GCE Ordinary Level; 491 fake Cameroon BEPC; 661 fake BEPC from a neighbouring country; and 83 fake CAP.

“This represents a total of 1,312 fake certificates, a slight increase in the results of this similar operation, which in 2022 led to the exclusion of 929 people from the ranks for admission to the Cameroonian Defence Forces,” MINDEF said.

Announcing that legal action shall take its cause, Beti Assomo stated: “The files of all the forgers detected have been removed from the lists, without prejudice to the repressive legal measures in force.”
