The human and natural riches of the Southwest region have been showcased in style.
Monalisa Jelly Mouketey, Miss South West, who is one of the candidates for Miss Cameroon 2023 contest took many by surprise when she appeared at the national museum clad in a carefully marked outfit showcasing the riches of the South West region.
She is currently in Yaounde for a boot camp together with other contestants of Miss Cameroon 2023.
“I proudly represent the South West Region of Cameroon” said Monalisa, explaining that “On my dress we have the map of the South West Region with its Six Divisions namely Manyu (the largest), Ndian, Kupe Manenguba, Meme, Fako, and Lebialem (the smallest in size). The South West Region of Cameroon is bordered on the west by the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to the east by the Littoral, West and North West regions, and opens to the Atlantic Ocean on the south. Buea is the Capital of the South West Region”
Her dress symbolizes the South West region bringing to the lime light her geographical features and it’s natural riches.
“My dress shows the Greatness of the South West Region of Cameroon through its landmarks and natural resources. The three animals at the top: The Elephant represents the “Elephant dance of the Bakweri tribe”; The Tiger represents the Ekpe Dance from the Manyu division, and the Monkey from Bakossi land”, revealed the Miss Camerooon 2023 contestant.
Some of the great touristic sites of the region are also captured in the special blend.
“The second line shows the prestigious Governor’s Palace in Buea originally built as a residence for Jesko von Puttkamer during German colonial times; Mount Cameroon, with native name “Mongo ma Ndemi” (“Mountain of Greatness”) the highest point in sub-Saharan western and central Africa and is 4095 meters high; then the Mbakwa Super Bridge, the most beautiful bridge in Cameroon-a flyover in a beautiful and rich forest” Miss South West went on.
She further expounded on other great features of the region which includes: the Lebialem Waterfall, Korup National Park, Cameroon Reunification Monument, the Twin Lakes of Muanenguba, the Hanging bridge of Mamfe, constructed by the Germans, the Plantations, the land of Fishermen, Idenau Steel Bridge built by the Germans, Debunscha, the wettest place in West Africa, the Slave Port of Bimbia and the National Oil Refinery SONARA.
Proud of her region of origin she said,l: “I stand tall like the Mongo ma Ndemi (Mountain of Greatness) and proudly represent the region of greatness, the South West region of Cameroon “
