Missing Anglophone journalist, Njoka Kingsley found at SED

The whereabouts of freelance journalist, Njoka Kingsley who went missing for over three weeks have been revealed.

According to a release signed by his lawyers, the Anglophone journalist who was arrested 24 days ago is at the headquarters of the National Gendarmerie, SED, in Yaounde.

Tracing the events after his arrest, it says Njoka Kingsley was held for several days at the military research service in Bonanjo, Douala where he slept on a mat in a makeshift cell.

He was later transferred to SED where he is currently being held. According to his lawyers Akuwidze Joseph, Pekum Emmanuel and Amungwa Tanyi, “he is frail and pale for he drinks mostly water because he is traumatized psychologically to have been kept for twenty four days incommunicado till this morning when we met him”.

Mr Njoka, they add, is suspected to be sponsoring separatist fighters in the North West and South West regions and has been very critical on social media over government’s handling of the Anglophone Crisis since 2017.

“He is alleged to also belong to several social media platforms wherein information about the ongoing crisis in the two English speaking regions of Cameroon is shared,” the lawyers say.

They add that “three laptops seized alongside his android phone are currently being searched by the investigator at the Centrale des Recherches Judiciary (SED) in order to ascertain the veracity of allegations brought against him”.

Permission given Njoka’s lawyers comes after pressure was mounted on government by national and International bodies following the death of another Anglophone journalist, Samuel Wazizi in detention.

Njoka’s wife and lawyer had made earlier attempts to find him to no avail.
