Traffic on the Bamenda-Mbengwi road has been halted since February 1st, 2022.
Separatist fighters restricted circulation on the road late Tuesday. This was after soldiers attacked the fighters’ checkpoint, killing one.
The Cameroon military had avoided the road since an improvised explosive device went off somewhere around Mbengwi park in Bamenda causing heavy casualties on the Cameron military.
The military sneaked into Momo Division on Monday night, driving right to Batibo where it’s believed they relieved some of their elements from their duties after a long time.
Cars and road users of the stretch of the road linking Bamenda and Mbengwi chief town of Momo have all been grounded with a few passengers succeeding to enter Momo division only through Bali and neighbouring divisions.
This is not the first time soldiers and/or separatist fighters are blocking a road or roads in Cameroon’s Anglophone regions.
For five years today, countless exchanges between both sides have left thousands dead including civilians.
