Militants of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM) political party are demanding an impartial judgement of two men suspected to have attempted to assassinate Prof. Maurice Kamto today in Garoua.The suspects were arrested by security agents of the CRM party and handed over to competent security forces in Garoua.

Who is on a mission to kill the leader of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement Party? Alain Fogue, CRM party official has noted that in less than a month there have been two attempts to assassinate Prof. Maurice Kamto. The party is calling on the government of Cameroon to take her responsibility and ensure the protection of all citizens including political opponents.

A young man was shot dead at Azire New church Junction in Bamenda, North West region today morning. Eyewitnesses say he was in possession of a pistol. Since the February twin elections, the town has recorded an upsurge in violence and attacks and insecurity for the residents.

General No Pity has denied carrying out last weekend’s attack in Galim in the West region of Cameroon. The separatist leader denied the allegation in a video circulating on social media. Armed men on the evening of March 7 2020 attacked the police station and gendarmerie in Galim, making away with ammunition. Some security forces were wounded and others lost their lives in the attack.

Christians of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC) have been converging on Buea South West region of Cameroon ahead of an induction ceremony of leaders of the church this Sunday. The Moderator of the church Rev. Fonki Samuel and the synod clerk Rev. Miki Hans were elected to office last year. They are getting to the helm of the church when the stronghold of the church which is the Anglophone regions is at the heart of a three years crisis.They will have the huge challenge of evangelising in the midst of tensions rocking the Anglophone regions.

The US under Secretary in charge of African Affairs has criticised Cameroon’s Minister of territorial administration for accusing Non Governmental Organisations in Cameroon of fueling tension. Tibor Nagy in a tweet today said “NGOs in Cameroon are playing a vital role of feeding victims of the crisis”.

The government of Cameroon is to intensify moves to ensure the identification of commercial motorcycle riders, especially those in the war torn areas. This has been stated by Paul Atanga Nji; minister of territorial administration. He mentioned that in the course of a security meeting in Bamenda.

A delegation of medical experts from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is to begin an inspection visit to Cameroon tomorrow. The delegation will inspect measures put in place by the Cameroon government to prevent the spread of Coronavirus amid two cases recorded in the country already. The CAF medical inspection team is to make sure that all is set before the start of African Football Championship (CHAN) on the 4th of April.

Health authorities in DR Congo have confirmed that the second person tested positive is a 46 year Cameroonian who lives in DR Congo with his family. According to the BBC, he returned from France on the 8th of March 2020 but did not show symptoms of the virus.

A former Ugandan spy chief, who recently declared his plan to run for the presidency, has been arrested for alleged treason. Retired Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde’s home and office in the capital Kampala, have been blocked since Thursday night and are being searched by the police and army.

Algeria and Morocco have suspended flights between the two countries to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. A statement from the Algerian President’s office said an agreement had been reached with the Moroccan government to suspend flights between the two countries to help fight Covid-19. On Thursday, Algeria announced a second death from the virus in the country and a total of 26 confirmed cases.

The number of people killed in clashes between rival armed groups in the Central African Republic has risen to 40, local media report. Most of the deaths were civilians – a dozen have reportedly been buried in a mass grave. The United Nations said the fighting began early on Wednesday after a faction of the Popular Front for the Rebirth of Central Africa attacked the northern town of Ndélé, clashing with the CAR Liberation Movement for Justice.

Tunisia’s Ministry of health has ordered all incoming travellers, regardless of where they have travelled from, to immediately self-isolate upon arrival to the country. This latest preventative measure against the spread of Covid-19 is a step up from earlier in the week when this was only a requirement for those coming back from the worst-affected areas.

The head of the regulatory body of insurance companies in Kenya has announced that policy holders infected and/or affected by the Coronavirus will have their medical expenses covered. There has been concerns in the country since the announcement of the first Covid-19 case that patients would not be covered because the disease has been labelled a pandemic.

Diamond Platnumz, one of Africa’s top singers, has postponed his planned Europe tour that was set to kick off on Friday. “CORONA VIRUS, We have Postponed My EUROPE TOUR…New Dates will be Announced Soon….#SafetyFirst, ” he posted on Instagram. The Tanzanian was set to perform in Belgium, Finland, France, Germany and Sweden.
