The Pamol plantations vicinity in Ndian now serves as a call centre as locals in the region troop the area to make calls. A majority of them leave as far as Mundemba which is an estimated one kilometre away.
“That is the only place where network connection is fluid…we have had network interruptions in Mundemba for over three months now,” a resident told Mimi Mefo Info.
It remains unclear why these areas are out of network but there were recent reports of how mobile telephone poles were destroyed during onslaught between security forces and pro-independence fighters in some parts of Ndian. The mobile telephone companies are yet to remedy the situation.
Until then, locals will continue to travel to talk to the far off relatives.
