Chopon Joseph, 2nd Deputy Mayor of Ndop Council in the Nkoketunja Division of the North West Region of Cameroon is heading for the fifth night in the hands of unknown kidnappers.
According to sources in Ndop, the Deputy Mayor was picked up alongside some Council workers on Friday May 15th 2020, at about 9PM by unknown individuals who ferried them to an undisclosed destination.
Family members would later be contacted Saturday morning may 16th, by his kidnappers who demanded the payment of 15 Million francs cfa ransom for his release, according to sources in Ndop.
The same source holds that the Mayor’s kidnappers threatened to take away his life should family members fail to pay in ransom before Monday May 18th 2020.
The source could not tell if the family got the defense and security forces involved or not. Attempts by Mimi Mefo info through out Monday to confirm if the money has been paid in for his release, proved fruitless.
The abduction of the Mayor of Ndop comes few days after the assassination of the Mayor of Mamfe in the Manyu Division, South West Region.
