News Roundup in Cameroon, April 15th, 2022

Cameroonian refugees seeking refuge from the Anglophone crisis may soon be granted a protection status by the United States of America. The decision was announced by the country’s Homeland Security Secretary who added that the US recognise the arms conflict and the accompanying humanitarian consequences on the population. This comes five years after the crisis escalated into a full blown war.



Christians around the world today commemorate the feast of Good Friday, a day they believe Jesus Christ died on the cross. Good Friday marks the end of the Lenten season for Christians, and usually is 2 days before the feast of Easter.



A man died today in Tuboro, Far North Region. He was killed by unidentified assailants under the watchful eyes of his children. His wife was later kidnapped by the men and taken to an undisclosed location. The reason for this is yet to be known.



At least 4 young persons have reportedly died in Batouri, in the East Region of Cameroon. Sources say they were covered by debris which fell on them as they tried to steal gravel.


Some mourners today cheated death as they got involved in a car accident in Bassamba. They left Yaounde for the burial of a deceased lady, when their car tumbled in an attempt to dodge another oncoming vehicle. No life was lost.



The EP of late singer, Aponglem Lesly aka Fhish titled SILK is now on streaming platform, Boomplay. The five song collection was released today following his double win at the Urban Jamz Award last night. At the award, Fhish was posthumously awarded for Best Afrobeats/Pop & Best EP.



Njalaquan Football club yesterday beat Asam FC 4-0. This was at one of two games that counted for the launching of the South West Regional League. LIFCA pulled a 0-0 tie with ASAM.



Algerian football fans have protested in front of FIFA’s office in Zurich, Switzerland. They have asked for a replay of the Cameroon vs Algeria world cup qualifying game in Blida, citing alleged cases of bad refereeing.
