The Sierra Leonean police have arrested Benjamin Nnanyereugo Best, a wanted social media influencer, at a nightclub in Free Town, the capital of the West African country. The Nigerian police had issued a wanted warrant for Nnanyereugo in connection with the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Augusta Osedion. Augusta was a student at Lead City University in Ibadan at the time of her murder.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, today officially confirmed the arrest of Nnanyereugo, also known as ‘Killahboi’.
In a video shared on social media, Augusta’s mom shared the events leading up to Nnanyereugo’s arrest. According to her Nnanyereugo fled Nigeria after being declared wanted for the murder of her daughter. She confirms in the video that she had been chatting with him and encouraging him to hand himself over to the police until he blocked her.
On October 11, the Lagos Police Command declared Killaboi wanted in connection with the death of Augusta.
In a previous statement, Hundeyin mentioned that Killaboi was suspected of murdering a 21-year-old woman on July 13, 2023, at his residence in Oral Estate, located in the Ajah area of Lagos state.
“Following the exhaustion of all available options to bring him in, he is declared wanted. The suspect is 26 years old, approximately 5’9 ft tall, and hails from Abia State. He is dark in complexion and speaks English, Igbo and pidgin English fluently,” the statement read in part.
Extradition underway
In a statement released on Saturday, Hundeyin confirmed that efforts are currently underway to extradite the suspect from Sierra Leone and bring him back to Nigeria.
According to Augusta’s mom, Nnanyereugo was apprehended at a nightclub in Free Town on Friday. He had recently changed his name to Kanu Princeton Samuel and had spent more than $25,000 to acquire a Sierra Leonean passport.
He was attempting to make a living in the West African country, which is famous for its beautiful white-sand beaches along the Freetown Peninsula.
