Njinikom: Separatist Fighters lift over one-month lockdown after compulsory payments by shopkeepers

Life has resumed in Njinikom sub division after close to two months lockdown imposed by separatist fighters fighting in the area.

Stores have now opened their doors, and there has been the resumed circulation of motor bikes now in circulation after they were forced to stay home in an indefinite lockdown that was imposed by separatist fighters as punishment for allegedly collaborating with security operatives weeks back that led to the killing of two fighters by elements of gendarmerie.

Reports from Njinikom say life has returned to normal. Transport vehicles can now load around the petrol station and passengers to and from Bamenda can now board bikes into the villages.

Separatist fighter asked all shop owners to contribute 5000FCFA and 10.000FCFA respectively according to the size of their shops.

Relay agents were tasked with the collection and cashing in.

It was only after that the fighters asked business operators to return with normal life.

Throughout the lockdown, life was hell to residents who had already been in deep misery as a result of the crisis. Violators of the lockdown were kidnapped and taken to the separatist camp at Aboh were they spent nights and weeks of intense torture and released only after payment of huge sums of money as ransom.
