The 8-year-old had left their house on Sunday evening on an errand to fetch water and never returned.

Apparently it was realized that stream which is found where the child had gone to fetch the water had been unusually filled up with water that day. It is speculated that stream had been filled up by water coming from a different part of town where it had rained heavily.

It was later on discovered that the child might have slipped into the stream when he had come to fetch the water.

The firefighting brigade was alerted to come and retrieve the body from the stream. It however took a little while for them to get to work as they demanded for more money than was offered to retrieve the body.

“The firefighters came after two hours and there was lot of negotiation. They refused to take the 40,000FCFA that they were being offered to work. They wanted more money… However they finally entered and retrieved the body.”

The child, whose parents hail from Kom in the Northwest Region has been buried at the Soa public burial ground. He was laid to rest last night.
