Nkongsamba: Cash Transfer company worker killed in alleged ambush, family accuses co-workers

Musima Elias Molongwe, a worker with a cash transfer company, CONTRAVAL was killed on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, in what his company workers say was an ambush by armed bandits who had intercepted their vehicle in a bid to steal the cash they were transferring.

Nkongsamba is situated in the Littoral region of Cameroon.

Family members of deceased Musima say they have analysed the situation and have seen that the story told by his co-workers and the reality do not tie, to say the least.

They believe their son was killed and a story framed up to cover up their act.

“On the evening of Tuesday, we were called by his company workers saying Elias was dead. They said their vehicle was attacked while on transit from Mbanga to Nkongsamba by armed bandits and he opened the door to escape and was shot in the chest,” his elder sister told Mimi Mefo Info.

She however says she was faced with a different reality when she got to the hospital where Elias had been laid.
Hear her: “When we got there, there was nobody with him at the hospital… There was a hole on his chest but there was no bullet found in him, and his left thumb had been destroyed… it looked like he had been tortured before being killed.

The two other persons who were with him were in another ward pretending of being shot.

“The driver said he was shot in his foot. But he still had his tight fitting jeans trousers on and no bandages on. When we asked him the possibility of that, he said he was shielding his wounds from mosquitoes.”

She also said they were the ones who took care of payments for Elias’s corpse to be washed operated and deposited at the mortuary despite the fact that he was killed while on duty.

The deceased’s elder sister who spoke to MMI said complaints were lodged at different Police and Gendarmerie stations but none of these places happened to be aware of any attack of such.

It was only at GMI that they were told the officer who was in the attacked vehicle was one of them.

“We went to GMI and they told us that the police officer in the vehicle was one of them and that they could not open an investigation against one of their own,” she said.

She also said that such an attack, if possible, would hardly go unnoticed by the press till date. In the vehicle, there were five persons and only Elias was killed.

Family members have revealed that a lawyer was sent to Mbanga to specifically investigate the attack.

“We sent a lawyer to investigate about the attack and unfortunately, he says the police stations and other security posts are all oblivious of any attack in Mbanga”.

The family has remained highly convinced that their brother had not been killed by any attack but was murdered by his co-workers.
“The police are unaware of any such attack. One Gendarmerie brigade told us they had a similar case from the same company in 2018 as one of the workers was equally killed for allegedly denying to co-operate in an operation,” she revealed.

The company has not yet issued an official statement on the incident.
