Nollywood & fans mourn as Nigerian actor, Saint Obi dies, aged 57

The death has been announced of Obinna Nwafor, popularly known as Saint Obi, a veteran Nigerian actor. Saint Obi died at the age of 57 after a protracted illness.

According to reports from local media sources, the Actors Guild of Nigeria is yet to issue a statement since the family apparently had a little disagreement, which is causing the delay in making a formal declaration.

Saint Obi’s body was taken to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) mortuary.

The announcement has put to rest, speculation and concerns over the whereabouts of the legendary actor.

According to reports, the actor died on Sunday 7 May 2023 at the house of one of his siblings.

Saint Obi was a darling of many Nollywood home video fans in the late 1990s and early 2000s before abruptly ceasing to feature in films. Before his death, he had appeared in almost 100 films.

Saint Obi was a director and producer and has appeared in a number of movies, including Candle Light, Sakobi, Goodbye Tomorrow, Heart of Gold, Final Whistle, Festival of Fire, Executive Crime, and Last Party.
