Eleven persons have been killed in another violent encounter between soldiers and separatist fighters in Bui, a division in the North West Region of Cameroon.
The casualties this time, included separatist fighters, soldiers, and a civilian.
They were killed as separatist fighters exchanged gunfire with the Cameroon military a few days ago.
Locals say a civilian, who was acting as an informant took the military to a separatists’ hideout where the gun battle took place.
Five separatist fighters including a ‘General’ were killed, a source revealed.
“They were in battle not far from the border with Nigeria, in Bui division,” he said.
He added that five soldiers and the civilian informant lost their lives too.
The separatists were killed alongside their leader, a certain Maître Zawo, believed to have been one of the long-surviving separatist fighters in the Ngohketunjia Division.
“He really helped Baba I… He managed to fight to see that civilians are not disturbed, corpses are brought and buried back home and people should not be harassed,” a local said of him.
He was laid to rest in his native village of Baba I.
