North West: Parents threaten to withdraw kids from school after officials distribute them Cameroon flags

Parents of learners in some primary and secondary schools in Bamenda, North West Region (NWR) of Cameroon have lashed out at school authorites for exposing their children to danger.

The parents say they were not happy seeing their children on pictures carrying the Cameroon flag forced on them by Governor Adolph Lele L’Afrique.

The parents have therefore, threatened to pull their children from those schools accusing authorities of putting their lives at risk.

Speaking to our reporters in Bamenda, a parent whose child is in one of those schools indicted the authorities for risking the lives of his children.

“The governor and the schools are using our children as an apparatus to make political gains thereby jeopardising the lives of our children. What were the flags for? Wasn’t that a way to cause trouble? I am withdrawing my kids from that school,” he indicated.

The stop over in schools by the governor and his entourage has not gone down well with many.

Some members of staff in one of the schools said they tried stoping the authorities from handing those flags to the children but were almost brutalised by soldiers accompanying the governor.

“We tried to stop them and I was pushed by a Gendarmerie Official. The governor was heavily guarded and failed to think that giving flags the Cameroon was dangerous. We have not rested from the hands of parents who say their children cannot study in a political school,” said a teacher.

We also gathered that schools were forced to hoist the Cameroon flag before the arrival of the governor and his delegation. Immediately they left, our sources say the flags were brought down.

It should be noted that, NW officials could not visit schools on day one of resumption as learners stayed at home because of ghost town operation announced by separatist fighters.
