Trade officials in the North West region have launched an operation to identify economic operators and business persons causing artificial scarcity of basic commodities.
The chief of the brigade at the regional delegation of trade, Isaac Ngatako, has warned that perpetrators of the price hike shall be severely sanctioned.
He has disclosed that the brigade is working in collaboration with the consumer protector association and the population.
He has called on victims of any malpractice in the market to inform the department in charge of commerce at the regional delegation of trade.
He has equally cautioned consumers and the population to always ask for their receipts whenever they buy something from the market.
“Always ask for your receipt because, at times when you do, they know that they cannot write anything on the receipt. They just adjust themselves”, Isaac Ngatako said.
These receipts he said can be used as evidence to sanction the operators.
