The Commander of the 5th Gendarmerie legion, Brigadier General Housseini Djibo, has said civilians and soldiers should stop thinking that it is the military that can stop the ongoing Anglophone Crisis.

Gen.Djibo was speaking recently during the inauguration of a newly renovated Mosque at the Gendarmerie command post in Bamenda.

The Mosque has been built to cater to the spiritual needs of soldiers.

“My message to every civilian and soldier is that they should stop thinking that it is our forces that will stop the crisis,” Gen Ousseini said.

“Everyone should pray and ask God because the Bible says in Mathew 7:7 that ask and it shall be given, knock and the doors shall be open. It is the same in the holy Quran,” he added.

He also said soldiers are human beings created by God and their lives are also precious.

As to why the Mosque was renovated, he said he could not just watch while God’s house continues to dilapidate.

Gen. Djibo’s remark came at a time when many, especially government supporters and members of the government, still believe in the military option to stop the over-six-year conflict.

The Anglophone Crisis that soon turned into an armed conflict has led to the death of at least 6,000 civilians, according to Human Rights Watch World Report 2022.
