The Mayor of Obala in the Center Region of Cameroon, Simon Pierre Ediba, has died just four days after he voted in the 2025 presidential election, having championed President Paul Biya’s re-election campaign in his area.
The Municipality received the shocking news of his demise about 5 pm on Thursday, just hours after he suffered a malaise, according to family sources.
Mr Ediba voted in Sunday’s election and looked healthy when he talked to the press about the smooth conduct of the vote in his municipality.
Through out last week, he was on the ground campaigning for incumbent president Paul Biya as Head of the CPDM Campaign commission in Obala for the October 12 election.
Mayor Ediba now becomes the third prominent elite of Obala to have died in the last three months, after former Governor Jules Marcelin Djaga and the Obala Public Prosecutor.
He is being remembered for his generosity and altruism.
