One Killed in Baba I Village Military Raid

Residents of Baba I in Ngoketunjia division, North West region of Cameroon say they are the latest victims of military brutality.

This was after soldiers stormed the village on Friday May 15th carrying out indiscriminate arrests and torture.

“The soldiers took a young man from his house and he was asked to go show the amba camp but the young man said he doesn’t know where they are” narrated a source.

The source adds that “the uniform men took him away and at a certain point shot him and killed him”.

The victim has been identified as Gideon Seuifue – his death has left villagers frightened. The incident he says comes after a military convoy was attacked days ago by separatist fighters and a truck destroyed.

Since the Anglophone crisis morphed into an armed conflict years ago, civilians have often been trapped in bloody battles between soldiers and separatist fighters, leading to the loss of several lives.

With over 3,000 deaths as a result of the war, calls have intensified for the country’s 87 year old president to seek a long-term solution to the crisis.
