Incumbent President Paul Biya is projected to win the 2025 presidential elections, according to an opinion poll conducted by the Institute of Africa Perspective, Panorama papers has reported.

Contenders sampled in the survey include Paul Biya, Samuel Eto’o Fils, Maurice Kamto, Akere Muna, Cabral Libi, Guibai Gatama, Osih Joshua and Titus Edzoa

According to the poll made public by a little-known Institute of Africa Perspective, 91-year-old President Paul Biya is likely to win the 2025 elections, followed by Samuel Eto’o Fils and then Kamto Maurice.

The poll puts Paul Biya ahead of other contenders with 41.66 percent.

Samuel Eto’o Fils, who recently denied having presidential ambitions, secured the second position based on the poll, with 16.58 percent.

Maurice Kamto, leader of Cameroon Renaissance Movement, CRM, opposition political party takes the third position followed by, Guibai Gatama, a novice in politics who recently declared his intentions for the Presidency.

Cabral Libii, Joshua Osih, Akere Muna, Titus Edzoa polled less than 10 percent.

The survey contradicts the narrative by Cameroonian opposition leaders, who believe the country is weary of the 41-year rule of a 91-year-old President, who will be 92 on election day.

Since ascending to power through a peaceful transfer in 1982, Paul Biya has won all successive elections amidst allegations of electoral fraud.

The recent poll playing to his favour come at a time when opposition stakeholders are struggling to build a base so as to oust the ruling party candidate in next year’s elections.

The opposition, the clergy and the civil society actors have, for the past months, been encouraging Cameroonians to register massively on the electoral register and vote if they so clamour for regime change.
