Over 1000 persons killed in Afghanistan earthquake

More than a thousand persons have lost their lives and over 1500 have sustained severe injuries following deadly tremors which occurred in Afghanistan.

According to reports, the 5.9 magnitude earthquake began on Wednesday June 22, 2022.

It has been described by many as the deadliest earthquake for over 20 years.

The loss of lives was accompanied by huge material losses as hundreds of buildings were crushed down by the earthquake.

The last earthquake which took place in February in the Western part of the country claimed the lives of 26 persons.

Afghanistan is going through a difficult political period since the Taliban regained control after 20 years of US invasion and occupation of the country.

Many Afghans fled the country following the takeover by the Islamic group, for fear of reprisal attacks for their role in helping the foreign troops.
