UNDP is the Only Party Capable of Winning Upcoming Election – Youth Chairman

The National Youth Chairman of the National Union for Democracy and Progress (UNDP), Paul Mbafor, has asserted that his party is the only one capable of winning the upcoming presidential polls.

This bold assertion has cast doubt on the possibility of a united opposition front against the incumbent, President Paul Biya.

Despite signaling the UNDP’s readiness to contest the election independently, Mbafor acknowledged that a coalition could still be a game-changer.

In an interview with an online platform, he stated that such an alliance could “widen the margin of victory and weaken the CPDM regime’s ability to commit large-scale fraud.”

Optimism Amid Coalition Talks

There have been widespread calls from Cameroonians for opposition parties to unite behind a single candidate.

While discussions among some political leaders have taken place, the UNDP and its presidential candidate, Bello Bouba Maigari, were notably absent.

However, Maigari has since held meetings with other opposition figures, including Issa Tchiroma Bakary and Akere Muna.

Details of these discussions remain scarce.

“Every day, we engage with other candidates to forge a genuine alliance and finally rid our nation of 43 years of stagnation,” Mbafor said.

“Yet, to our dismay, many of them seem unwilling to embrace real change.”

Rumors About Bello Bouba’s Health

Mbafor also addressed rumors spread by content creator Ben Modo, who claimed that the longtime Minister of Tourism and Leisure sought government assistance for medical treatment abroad.

The 78-year-old Maigari has remained visibly active, holding political meetings since stepping down from his ministerial role to focus on his presidential campaign.

“Only Ben Modo knows his motives—and who hired him for this smear campaign,” Mbafor asserted.

“We refuse to dignify such distractions with further attention.”

He reiterated the UNDP’s unwavering commitment to its mission.

“We are more determined than ever to fight, win, and defend our victory at all costs,” Mbafor declared. “On October 12, democracy will prevail—and nothing will stand in its way.”

With the deadline for coalition agreements now passed, the election will proceed with all 12 candidates on the ballot.
