Several palaces in the North West region of Cameroon have been deserted due to war in the region.
In this light, the governor of the North West has called on all ‘run away’ chiefs to return to their palaces and contribute in the process of peace.
Adolphe Lele L’Afrique in a security meeting Monday, November 18, 2019 said the process of peace is a collective one with the custodians of the customs and traditions of the region called upon to play a leading role in restoring peace.
To the civil administrator, villagers have been abandoned, with others in the bushes due to insecurity while some chiefs have taken refuge in safer places in the francophone regions of Cameroon.
On the question of traditional rulers that have abandoned their palaces, the Minister of Territorial Administration had earlier called on the chiefs to return to their villages to no avail.
During the security meeting, the Senior Divisional Officer of Donga Mantung Division was conspicuously absent.
No official reason was stated as to why Simon Nkwenti Dooh was absent but other sources have suggested that it is linked to threat of attack by separatist fighters.
